A Day Trip to the Museum of Liverpool

Before we start talking about the history of this place, I would like to say the Museum of Liverpool is free! Not a penny (lane?) will it cost you enter this place, and for that, you should be delighted!

In this section we can see how Liverpool has represented itself – and many other places – on the silver screen.

One of the amazing things about modern museums is how much effort has been put into the presentation. Upon entering this building, I thought I knew all there was to know about the city.

The History

It turns out I was incredibly wrong. Liverpool‘s history is such a staggeringly interesting story. The Museum of Liverpool takes the challenge of presenting Liverpool’s changing fortunes and creates a wonderful day trip destination.

Opened in 2011, the Museum of Liverpool replaced the former Museum of Liverpool Life. The grand, sweeping building dominates the skyline at the dockside in Mann Island. It is well worth a visit, particularly on a rainy day when museums really come into their own.

A Superlambanana (yes, you read that correctly) inside the museum. This particular one is ‘Mandy’ Mandala Superlambanana and she symbolizes hope.

‘Wondrous Place’ celebrates the actors, musicians and artists that have come from the city. Furthermore, you will find props and costumes that Liverpool stars have worn on stage or screen.

The origins story of The Beatles has some amazingly in-depth footage of the ‘Fab Four’, going back to their very early childhoods.

Is It Kid-Friendly?

Kids are very welcome and well catered for in this museum, with an interactive section for them called ‘History Detectives’. While I was there, children were enjoying the section and making plenty of noise!

Final Thoughts

Children (and adults) can see the important stages Merseyside went through from the neolithic period up until recent times. The amount of attention to detail that has been put into the exhibits is extremely commendable.

Tate Liverpool is a two-minute walk from the museum. So, you can get double the culture for the low, low price of zero.

Entry: Free! Gratis! Nada! (however, donations are welcome).

Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm.
