Southport’s Hesketh Park is a beautiful, green oasis in the middle of Southport. Featuring an observatory, a mini-golf course, a gorgeous lake, and enough greenery to hide an army in.
It rivals the Southport Botanic Gardens at the other end of town for charm. Hesketh Park is a 5-minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Lord Street, and yet is timeless and peaceful.
What is There to See and Do?
Hesketh Park is laid out in a very casual, unfussy manner, with long sweeping vistas and tree-lined corridors that inspire day-dreaming and zen.
Those with green fingers will love the fact that there is enough of a design element to the park without being overly showy. Flowers highlight different corners of the spaces and give off vivacious hues you would not expect in British summer.
Parkruns at Hesketh Park
Hesketh Park parkruns are every Saturday at 9 am. My girlfriend tells me they are very well-run (no pun intended) and professional. So, give it a go! You do need to register before you can join in, though. Check out their website here.

People often remark that the wonderful thing about parks is how the outside world seems so far away. And this works in reverse; it would be easy not to know that such an oasis exists a five-minute walk from Southport’s main, busy shopping street.
This would be a shame if you did. Southport’s Hesketh Park is a fine example of everything a park should be. It is simultaneously large and small. It is grand yet unshowy. And it is serene yet utilitarian. In other words, it means the needs of anyone who wants to accept its many charms.
