Ormskirk

Often overlooked, Ormskirk is a bustling market town outside Southport, and the location of Edge Hill University. A striking thing about strolling around Ormskirk is the sheer number of independently owned shops, cafés and restaurants there are (65% according to Discover Ormskirk). With a lot of towns, the high street is the same old collection of chain stores in a different order. Ormskirk bucks this trend, with window shoppers and spendaholics alike getting a great day out. For charity shop adventurers, there are plenty of books, clothes, and bargains available.

Ormskirk was named after Ormr (meaning Serpent or Dragon) and kirkja, the Old Norse word for ‘church’. The town itself is built into a mild incline towards the church, but otherwise the pedestrianised centre is very accessible to those in wheelchairs. The market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays and is well worth a look for seasoned bargain-hunters and amateurs alike.

I’m Mark

Welcome to my blog. When my girlfriend came to visit me in England, I wanted to find cool places to take her that were a little different from the norm and do things that would create good memories for her.

We also realised that the price of a day out rarely had anything to do with the quality of the experience. Cheap days out were often more fun than expensive tours or fancy places. With that in mind we set up this blog for you to enjoy your days out in the North West, whether it is solo, as a couple, as a family, or retirees at a more leisurely pace.
